Extra Information: This book won the Inaugural Peter Townsend Policy Press Prize which was awarded at the British Academy in October 2011. The British Academy judging panel described it as a book that provides 'a unique insight into the changing nature of residential care over half a century', as being 'methodologically innovative' and 'beautifully written' and as such 'a model for students'.
