Abstract
A short article on Helen Perkin (1909-96) is included in this book not only for her role as an important figure in the life and music of John Ireland, but also because she was a very significant performer in her own right throughout the 1930s, and to a lesser extent after the Second World War. As a pianist, Perkin worked in Britain, Europe and Australia. As a composer, she produced a range of works including songs, chamber music, orchestral and brass band pieces, ballet and film scores and a large repertory for solo piano.
