Abstract
In the late 1930s Ford Madox Ford was at work planning a new volume with the working title (though this was subject to change) 'Portraits of Cities'. Only four chapters appear in the end to have been written, all on the USA. The typescripts of each of them are at Cornell University. One of these was published, as 'Take Me Back to Tennessee', in Vogue (New York) (1 Oct. 1937).
