Abstract
This paper describes how the thinking process behind the data evaluation of a research project led to considering a holistic view of mathematical thinking. Improving Attainment in Mathematics Project (IAMP) involves three academic researchers and nine teachers-co-researchers. The aim of the project is to explore and develop ways of teaching and learning of below average attainers, focussing on stimulating mathematical thinking and understanding of key ideas in mathematics.
