Martin, Graham and Owens, W. R. eds. (1988). Literature and Liberation: Selected Essays. Manchester, U.K.: Manchester University Press.
Abstract
Arnold Kettle’s reputation as one of the best literary critics of his generation derived mainly from his well-known and widely translated Introduction to the English Novel (1951 – 3). The aim of the present book is to made available a selection of his other, occasional, writing from periodicals of essay collections, many of them long out of print. The onset of serious illness shortly after he retired as Professor of Literature in The Open University made it impossible for him to assemble the book himself. Bus as editors, we had his direct advice in choosing from the wealth of available material.
