Abstract
In this chapter we examine issues concerning care for adults with learning disabilities or with mental health problems. In the main society is organised as if the need for care is exceptional. Younger adults who need continuing support, because of long-term intellectual impairment or intermittent mental health difficulties, present rather different challenges, and examining how they relate to care throw up some controversial questions.
