Abstract

The text explores different professional domains and the organisational and policy contexts that can influence the range and nature of interventions. New chapters highlighting significant changes in the NHS and other settings include:

· the promotion of health in higher education
· the role of Primary Care Groups and Primary Care Trusts
· the enhanced role of community nurses
· policy initiatives such as Health Improvement Programmes, Health Action Zones and Healthy Living Centres.
