Abstract
This paper discusses the application of non-parametric methods, such as a rank-algorithm, in order to find different regions within an image which possess special stochastic properties. The underlying mathematical concepts are presented and in order to illustrate this method, an image which is composed of well-defined structures and a stochastic process is given. It will also be shown how the relevant parameters of the stochastic process can be estimated
