Abstract
This chapter first outlines what is covered by the term 'learning log'. It then examines the theoretical basis for the use of logs and some of the potential difficulties for learners. Examples are presented illustrating how keeping a log can be a useful strategy for encouraging reflection, enhancing planning, monitoring and evaluation of progress and developing specific language skills.
