Abstract
A survey of more than fifty children's books on Africa published between 1939 and 1986, analysing its themes, highlighting the use of stereotypes and studying the evolution of interests matching those of the French society. In the end, beyond stereotypes and ignorance, children's literature still aims at facilitating intercultural understanding.
