This document describes the changing nature of work organisation in the stage production postfordist. It makes a distinction between new techniques of organization and social relations in which these techniques are introduced. These social relations are not certain but technically they are a response to the interplay of social and political forces. We compare different results in Japan and Sweden to illustrate the variety of industrial relations that are compatible with the introduction of these new forms of work organization.
